Taribu Shakur

Taribu Shakur was directly impacted by the incarceration system for over 45 years, including a final term of 36 years. By virtue of these lived experiences, he has become a Credible Messenger, Theologian-Scholar, Change Agent, and Organizer - committed to inspiring healing and expanding the consciousness of those who feel lost in cycles of

despair. He believes it is imperative to activate and elevate restorative principles and help usher in a more humane approach to establishing justice for all.

In addition to his transformative leadership, Taribu is a highly skilled Conflict Resolution, Crisis Intervention, and De-escalation specialist, dedicated to serving community members affected by violence, substance abuse, homelessness and other social challenges. With over two decades of experience in this work, he possesses a strong ability to convene, guide, and uplift individuals in denouncing harmful behavior. He supports them in remaining steadfast in their personal growth and inner strength, both within prison and in the larger society.

Shakur is immensely and uniquely skilled in this work. Since his own transformation, he has played an instrumental role in supporting other men to make meaningful amends and embrace positive pro-social paths. He also has extensive expertise in designing personalized plans tailored to the needs of individuals including relapse prevention, gang and safety prevention, five-year reentry plans, behavior modifications tools, anger management, emotional intelligence development (cues and warning signs), and crime impact statements.
